The Prodigy is an excellent addition to the horror and thriller genres. It is definitely worth the watch for fans of either genre. It contains a little bit of everything you would expect, from jump scares to gore with suspense sprinkled throughout, and is almost guaranteed to creep you out.
A young couple, Sarah (Taylor Schilling) and John Blume (Peter Mooney), becomes excited when their son, Miles (Jackson Scott), begins showing signs of advanced development and high intelligence. To the point that they place him in special schooling and read books about parenting child geniuses. Sarah and John start to become worried as Miles’ behavior slowly becomes violent and unpredictable.
The Prodigy does a great job at being creepy. This is primarily because Jackson Scott was excellent in his role as Miles. Throughout the film he constantly was switching between Miles, who was in fear of what is happening to him, and the supernatural force that is taking over his body.
Overall I enjoyed watching it. Again I wouldn’t say it’s a must watch, but it definitely will be worth the trip to see in theaters. If they decided to make a sequel I would be all for it. If you are a soon to be or new parent and are easily creeped out, you might want to think twice. The Prodigy is a great start to a year full of thrillers.
